3-Hour Cafeteria Worker – Spiller Elementary School

• At least 21 years of age, high school diploma or GED, and some experience in food preparation.
• Interest in preparing and working with food.
• Physical stamina to withstand temperature variances common to food service facilities; can lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to work continuously standing, walking, bending, and moderate lifting.
• Capability to work at the speed necessary to meet deadlines.
• Ability to operate food service equipment and/or cash register.
• Effective communication and ability to work with students, staff, and co-workers.

• Prepare, cook, and serve meats, breads, vegetables, and other foods in accordance with the menu.
• Prepare and serve fruits, desserts, salads, soups, and other foods.
• Wash pots, pans, kettles, and other cooking utensils (maximum weight 25 lbs).
• Operate dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamer, oven, and other food service equipment.
• Participate in daily clean‑up of work surfaces, eating and food preparation areas, equipment, and utensils.
• Sweep and mop and perform other clean‑up duties as assigned.
• Assist in estimating and ordering food supplies.
• Receive and stock food supplies (maximum weight 55 lbs).
• Maintain sanitary conditions.
• Serve as cashier and collect money for meals, if necessary.
• Courteously serve food to students while adhering to portion control, safety, and appearance standards.
• Scrape food from used dishes and wash them in dishwasher.
• Follow trash separation and disposal procedures.
• Report needed supplies and equipment malfunction to the Cafeteria Manager.
• Observe and promote safe work practices and procedures.
• Attend in‑service training sessions to develop and improve knowledge and skills.
• Recommend changes and improvements regarding his/her job and accept changes readily.
• Adhere to uniform and personal hygiene requirements.
• Prepare and serve banquet and special function meals as required.
• Inspect cleaned dishes for cleanliness, chips, cracks, etc., and store in the appropriate location.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager, Assistant Cafeteria Manager, and/or Cafeteria Coordinator.

180 days per year.
