Position: Animal Behavior Technician at Halok9behavior Xenia, OH

Job Description

Halok9behavior is a state-of-the-art canine behavior facility dedicated to transforming the lives of dogs and their people. We are not a kennel; we focus on positive, fear-free methods to help dogs become adoptable or thrive in their homes. Our mission is to create lasting change for dogs with behavioral challenges through compassionate, science-based training and support.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, animal-loving Canine Behavior Technician to join our team as an independent contractor. This hands-on role involves working directly with large breed dogs, supporting our behaviorist, and helping to implement individualized training and socialization plans. The ideal candidate is passionate about animal welfare, reliable, and eager to learn and grow in the animal behavior field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely handle and interact with dogs of all sizes and temperaments, with a focus on large breeds
  • Support the behaviorist in implementing training, enrichment, and socialization protocols—both onsite and in public settings
  • Walk dogs for extended periods throughout the day, including outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Observe, document, and communicate dog behaviors and progress to the behaviorist and clients as needed
  • Assist with public socialization outings to help dogs learn positive behaviors in real-world environments
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and fear-free environment at all times
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs as needed
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and team members
  • Demonstrate commitment to the well-being and success of every dog in our care
Qualifications
  • Prior experience handling dogs is required; animal shelter or rescue experience is preferred but not required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stay on your feet, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Flexible availability for weekend shifts between 7:30am and 9:30pm (exact hours negotiable)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to positive, fear-free, force-free training philosophies (prior experience with these methods is a plus)
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the organization, with the potential to advance to trainer or behaviorist roles
  • Reliable transportation
