Position OverviewWe seek a skilled Veterinary Assistant or Technician with a strong background in veterinary surgery. The ideal candidate will confidently lead and manage the surgical element of our practice, including preparation, monitoring, and post‑operative care.
Responsibilities- Assist in surgical procedures: prepare the operating room, handle instruments, and support veterinarians during surgery.
- Monitor anesthesia and vital signs during procedures, ensuring animal safety and comfort.
- Perform laboratory work: conduct blood tests, urinalysis, and other diagnostic assays to aid patient evaluation.
- Conduct diagnostic imaging such as X‑rays and interpret results.
- Manage post‑operative care: administer medications, monitor vital signs, and provide comfort to recovering patients.
- Educate pet owners on post‑treatment care, medication schedules, wound care, and preventive health measures.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect and interpret blood samples; assist in the interpretation of laboratory results.
- Assist veterinarians in surgical prep and recovery, ensuring all equipment is sterile and ready.
- Lead patient recovery protocols, including medication administration and monitoring for complications.
- Offer guidance on nutrition, routine care, and preventive health to pet owners, empowering them to maintain their animal’s well‑being.
- Hourly compensation based on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Requirements Education and Training- Associate degree in veterinary technology from an accredited program.
- Pass a national licensing exam or sit for it successfully.
- Strong foundation in science and effective communication.
- Detail‑oriented, multitasking ability, and emotional resilience in animal health care.
- Meet state licensing requirements (VTNE is a common requirement).
- Earn a state title such as Registered VT (RVT), Licensed VT (LVT), or Certified VT (CVT).
- Complete continuing education to maintain licensure.
