Dozer Operator
General DescriptionA Dozer Operator is an hourly‑rated, skilled craft position that performs a combination of the duties described below. The operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the dozer, levelings and scooping soil, and controlling the direction and angle of the equipment to move rocks and debris.
Key Duties- Proper pre‑start and daily maintenance, including lubrication
- Operate the dozer in a safe and appropriate manner
- Understand, interpret and follow directions from foreman and superintendents
- Keep equipment clean and well maintained
- Notify supervisor if equipment needs repair
- Check tire pressure
- Monitor all engine gauges
- Interact with construction general laborers and crew members to align, move, and adjust the equipment to complete grade specifications
- Turn valves to control air and water output of compressors and pumps
- Adjust controls to drive machinery and attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms
- Understand production and quantity requirements
- Schedule work and maintain production
- Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts
- Other duties as assigned
- Minimum of 3 years (preferred) of experience in placing rock embankment and working steep slopes in mountain areas or rock quarries (D8)
- True understanding of each key duty, communication skills with supervisors and employees
- High school diploma or GED (preferred)
- Three (3) to Five (5) years or more of industry‑related experience, emphasizing roads, highways, and bridges
- Constant physical effort during at least an eight‑hour shift; ability to stand, stoop, bend, and crouch as required
- Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes with hand power tools
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds personally, up to 150 pounds with assistance
- Maintain constant alertness to concurrent activities on the construction site
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces and varying weather conditions
- Climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely
- Performed outdoors in all weather conditions
- Periodic exposure to high levels of noise, grease, and dust typical of construction projects
- Regular work near heavy equipment and moving machinery
- Involvement with substances such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready‑mixed concrete
