About the Role
Senior Telecommunications Engineer at Jacobs – responsible for designing and implementing structured cabling, wireless, audio/visual, and other low‑voltage systems in data center projects. The role includes technical design leadership, mentorship of junior engineers, and coordination with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Base PaySalary range: $123,600 – $170,000 per year.
LocationUnited States (any location; preference for proximity to Jacobs U.S. office).
Responsibilities- Lead BIM designers in preparation of engineering drawings.
- Create or modify DIV 27 specifications.
- Conduct site visits and review technical documents.
- Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Sign and seal telecommunications design packages.
- Mentor other team members.
- Partner with lead engineer or department manager to establish efficient processes.
- Perform preliminary assessments, concept creation, and problem resolution.
- Produce drawings and specifications, plan customer and vendor accessibility.
- Serve as the engineer of record for designs and provide coverage for project leads.
- Lead projects when bandwidth permits.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Communication Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college.
- At least 8 years of experience actively designing or leading designs for telecommunications structured cabling systems.
- Proficient knowledge of ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards.
- Proficient knowledge of NFPA 70 and its application to telecommunications cabling.
- Experience with Bluebeam for design documentation.
- Self‑motivation to collaborate with other disciplines, project managers, and clients.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Familiar with responding to RFPs.
- Experience in quality assurance and checking telecommunications systems designed by others.
- Experience with start‑up and commissioning of telecommunications systems.
- Experience creating and maintaining project budgets and schedules.
- Experience identifying and mitigating company risk.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain additional PE licenses is a must.
- 4 years of telecommunications design experience in data centers.
- Experience on other low‑voltage systems (security, audio/visual, wireless).
- Working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks.
- Knowledge of telecom infrastructure for controls and security systems.
- Proficient in CSI or AIA specification writing procedures.
- Credential as an RCDD.
