Position Summary

The Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, promoting a safety-first culture, and minimizing risks to employees, equipment, and production. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of workplace safety protocols in a food manufacturing environment.

Primary Responsibilities 40% - Safety Program Development & Implementation
  • Develop, implement, and manage safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with OSHA, local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as industry-specific standards.
  • Regularly update safety protocols to reflect changes in regulations, best practices, and emerging risks.
  • Develop, write, or update SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for activities within various departments, taking into account best safety practices.
  • Design and conduct safety audits and inspections across all locations, ensuring the safe operation of machinery, equipment, and production processes. Ensure uniformity and consistency in safety procedures and standards. Coordinate with site supervisors, managers, and team leaders to identify and address location-specific safety concerns.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and identify potential risks within the workplace, particularly in food processing and manufacturing areas.
  • Implement and maintain risk reduction strategies, including the use of PPE (personal protective equipment), machinery safety guards, and ergonomic work practices.
  • Oversee the implementation of emergency response procedures, including fire drills, first aid protocols, and evacuation plans.
  • Foster a safety-conscious work environment by promoting open communication and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a role model for safety practices and behaviors, encouraging all employees to prioritize safety in their daily tasks.
  • Collaborate with management and other departments to ensure safety is a key focus in operational planning and decision-making.
20% - Employee Safety Training & Awareness
  • Conduct regular safety training sessions for employees at all levels, including new hire orientation, ongoing safety education, and specialized training for high-risk operations.
  • Promote employee awareness of safety issues and ensure adherence to company safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure the LMS system is up to date and training records are current.
  • Support employee health and wellness programs, including ergonomics, and injury prevention.
20% - Accident and Incident Investigation
  • Work with department supervisors on investigations into workplace accidents, incidents, or near misses to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence. Work closely with HR on the management of all work-related accidents/injuries.
  • Ensure that all accidents and incidents are properly documented and reported in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Works with department supervisors to update/manage the incident and near miss log ensuring appropriate actions are taken on all incidents.
15% - Safety, Compliance, & Reporting
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements (OSHA, FDA, EPA, etc.) and company-specific safety standards.
  • Prepare and submit all required safety reports, logs, and documents to regulatory authorities.
  • Track and report on safety performance metrics, such as injury rates, safety audits, and compliance issues to appropriate Management Team member.
