Spanish Teacher - Middle School

Sacred Heart Catholic School in Yankton, South Dakota, is seeking a Middle School Spanish Teacher for grades K through eight for the 2026-27 school year. The successful candidate will foster growth in students’ understanding and appreciation of the Spanish language and culture. The ideal candidate is passionate about Spanish language education, collaborative, and dedicated to a faith‑based community.

• Teach beginning Spanish through advanced level coursework for grades K-8, including language and culture studies. Commuting between the two schools would be expected.
• Qualification for 9th grade Spanish preferred.
• Foster the advancement and enhancement of fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in Spanish.
• Incorporate the basic linguistic and cultural aspects of the Spanish language.
• Help students develop knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for other cultures, languages, and countries.
• Design age‑ and skill‑appropriate lessons independently and collaboratively with grade‑level teams.
• Serve as mentor (homeroom) teacher for a small group of middle school students.

• Experience with differentiated instruction to serve all students in a classroom.
• Effective skills in creating positive relationships with students and their families.
• Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills.
• Willingness and ability to act as an outstanding personal witness to the Catholic faith.

• Bachelor's degree.
• Native or near‑native fluency in Spanish.
• Valid South Dakota Teaching certificate or ability to obtain one.
• Knowledge of the culture, history, and practices of Spanish‑speaking communities.
