Recreation Programmer who can take a hands-on approach in developing and facilitating dynamic opportunities and experiences that add value and enrich the lives of our community members. This role is central to providing meaningful recreation-based services that align with the Mission, Standards, Policies, and Procedures of The Meadows.
What you will do- As a Recreation Programmer I, you will:
- Assist in assessment, program design, and implementation of recreational activities.
- Provide individual interventions that support residents’ overall well-being.
- Complete documentation and contribute to ongoing resident care plans.
- Coordinate and support volunteers engaged in recreation and activity programs.
- Collaborate with Care Team Members to deliver in-house programs that promote engagement and joy.
- Participate in pet care and plant maintenance as part of holistic programming when required.
- Maintain a positive attitude, contribute to a healthy workplace culture, and help stamp out negativity.
- Wear a mask for the duration of the shift, as per infection control protocols.
- A sincere willingness and passion to engage and participate with residents, enhancing their social, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
- The ability to relate with compassion and respect to those who live and work in our home, with strong customer service and stakeholder focus.
- A Degree or Diploma in Recreation, or a combination of relevant experience and education in Gerontology or Sociology.
- Proven ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Effective communication (verbal and written) and excellent interpersonal skills with residents, families, and colleagues.
- Adaptability and flexibility to meet the changing needs of residents and the organization.
- Reliability in attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently using sound judgment and initiative.
- Physical capability to meet the demands of the role, including lifting, transporting, and leading multiple fitness programs throughout the day.
- A valid Class IV Driver’s License (or willingness to obtain).
- Emergency First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Completion of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia Course (GPA).
- Membership with Nova Scotia Recreation Professionals in Health or Therapeutic Recreation Association Atlantic Canada.
- Eden Training or experience with people-centered care approaches.
- Experience working with volunteers and facilitating community engagement.
- Previous experience in geriatric programming or a long-term care setting.
