Position: Field Engineer (Welding NDT)
Location: Yate

We are recruiting for a Field Engineer - Welding NDT who will perform surveillance to ensure activities comply with the Contractor’s Work Information. The role includes delivering Team Lead duties described in the contract and meeting HPC Quality targets and expectations. The Field Engineer will advocate a Nuclear Safety Culture and embed it in all processes and activities on the project.

The scope covers construction of the designated section of the project and continuous, notified and planned surveillance.

The Field Engineer reports to the Construction Superintendent for day‑to‑day guidance. The role requires input into site‑wide management issues and a high level of interaction and coordination with other Operational members of the site‑wide team.

Role Responsibilities
  • Check that works are constructed in accordance with the contract and notify the Construction Superintendent of non‑conformance requests.
  • Submit details of non‑conformance requests to assist in the issuing of non‑conformance reports.
  • Communicate proactively with other site teams, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is reported on time.
  • Contribute surveillance information to support KPI indicators.
  • Identify potential quality issues before they arise to enable mitigating actions.
  • Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action to prevent the halt of works.
Education, Experience and Skills
  • Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Welding qualifications or equivalent vocational training and experience.
  • Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the Engineering Construction industry, materials, trades methods and legal requirements.
  • Excellent organisation, delegation, and good communication skills (knowledge of French can be an advantage).
  • Proven experience of writing diaries that are accurate, concise and relevant to the particular form of contract.
  • Proven track record of working within a large construction team.
  • Good attention to detail when checking work and materials, and the ability to maintain quality standards in a high‑pressure environment.
  • Ability to establish appropriate working relationships with contractors.
  • Working knowledge of relevant British & European standards, construction and design codes/guidelines such as RCC‑M, BS EN and ASME.
