Description Under the authority of the YKDFN Government Chiefs and Council and under the direct supervision of the instruction of the Traditional Arts programs and to assist the Program Manager and Assistant Program Manager in all aspects of the implementation and delivery of the Traditional Arts Programs. This position will be located in N’dilo.
Duties And Responsibilities
Instruct students in various courses in the Traditional Arts Programs;
These courses include basic sewing, parka making, traditional footwear, beading, nature crafts among others;
Assist with planning for courses and curriculum development;
Use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, video instruction, one-on-one guidance, etc.;
Assist with identifying and recruiting Elders and other knowledge holders as guest or assistant instructors as required;
Organize opportunities for land-based education, experiential post-secondary trial-runs, and opportunities for career exploration;
Contact ITI or other appropriate offices to set up workshops on marketing and small business funding opportunities;
Collaborate with pre-existing partners in local businesses and organizations and post-secondary institutions and develop new partnerships to coordinate educational and work opportunities;
Cooperate with other employees of Dechı̨ta Nàowo to deliver culturally relevant educational programming; and assist with other duties as required.
Requirements
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A minimum of 5 year’s experience in traditional arts such as traditional sewing, beading, traditional footwear, etc. coupled with at least two years relevant experience working with young people in an educational setting, preferably within a northern First Nations community; or
At least one year’s experience instructing Traditional Arts.
