De Beers Group has an exciting opportunity for an energetic and self-motivated individual to support the Electrical & Instrumentation team at the Gahcho Kué Mine Site based in the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor, the role is based within the Engineering and Site Services department. This is a site-based position with a 14 days in, 14 days out rotation.
This position is responsible for operating, maintaining and repairing the Site power generation equipment – Stationary & Mobile in a safe, functional and reliable manner. The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe working practices and strives for zero harm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of Power generation technicians to operate, maintain and repair both prime power and standby power diesel generators rated 7.5kVA to 3,500 kVA;
- Maintain and repair all Powerhouse auxiliary mechanical and electrical equipment, including but not limited to, waste heat recovery system, LV electrical systems to maintain safe, efficient and continuous powerhouse operation;
- Work with team to conduct job risk assessments and safe work plans ahead of work being completed;
- Perform engine failure analysis and field repairs using OEM diagnostic tools and Service instruction manuals;
- Complete PM inspections, testing and accurate reporting of engine downtime from defects/deficiencies;
- Inspect and ensure general and specialized tooling are in good working order and always safe to use;
- Liaise with Scheduler to ensure warranty claims are processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with OEM policies;
- Assist Planners and Scheduler in developing scope of work, planning out and scheduling new work for both regular maintenance tasks and ad-hoc engine overhauls or emergency repairs;
- Act like an owner to ensure all power generation equipment and areas are maintained to organizational SHE standards;
- Provide inputs to Supervisors to complete scheduled work and emergency breakdown work to ensure safe and reliable power supply to end users;
- Record clear and detailed information and hours worked on work orders in SAP; &
- Report hazard observations and near hits, and assist with incident investigations and follow-up work.
Reporting to the Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor, role is based in the Electrical & Instrumentation department.
Qualifications- Valid Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) certification;
- Dual ticket support may be provided to Journeyperson HETs in Electrical;
- Minimum five years’ experience in an industrial setting which includes experience on operating and maintaining power generation equipment;
- Ability to perform diagnostics and repairs on remote field equipment;
- Valid Class 5 or equivalent Driver’s license with no restrictions;
- Caterpillar C175 engine experience considered an asset;
- Ability to operate within MS Office and SAP environment;
- Ability to build productive working relationships with all departments; &
- Ability to communicate and complete work in a professional and efficient manner.
