Job Description
The position is responsible for performing janitorial duties to ensure The Salvation Army’s facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities- Daily cleaning of Resource Centre, including shelter rooms, hallway washrooms, showers, floors, bunk mats, staff washrooms, kitchen, office, laundry room, and front entrance.
- Vacuuming 1st and 2nd floor offices and photocopy room, and sweeping/mopping hallway floors, stairwell steps, dining area, and entrance lobby.
- Wiping and disinfecting doors, windows, light fixtures, exit signs, and ceiling vents.
- Cleaning kitchen countertops, sinks, and steam trays; washing dishes; wiping tables and chairs; and maintaining the kitchen floor.
- Maintaining church building cleaning schedule: clearing floors, doors, windows, washrooms, sanctuary, nursery, library, children's room and prayer room, stairwells.
- Laundry and stocking supplies: washing/drying/folding towels, bedding, blankets, clothes, aprons; stocking cleaning and paper supplies.
- Thrift store cleaning: sweeping, mopping, and moving racks; clearing price tags.
- Other janitorial/maintenance projects as assigned by the supervisor.
- Knowledge of cleaning and janitorial skills.
- Prior experience in janitorial field.
- Familiarity with different cleaning supplies.
- Class 4 Driver’s License (asset).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and follow directions.
- Strong communication skills in English (written and oral).
- Understanding of Aboriginal and Inuit cultures, addictions, mental health, and other social issues.
- Willingness to live within the mission of The Salvation Army.
- Criminal Record Check.
- Valid First Aid certificate (asset).
- WHMIS certification.
- Online abuse prevention certification.
- Internal abuse registry check.
- Participation in mandatory yearly training.
Salary range: $24.72 to $25.29 per hour, up to $25.85 Salvation Army provides reasonable accommodation upon request. Benefits include health and dental coverage, paid vacation and sick time, RRSP contribution, and opportunities for advancement.
Working Conditions & AuthorityThe role may require flexible hours and involves high-stress interactions with clients. The incumbent reports to the Maintenance/Janitorial Supervisor and works cooperatively within the janitorial team. Decisions related to safety of clients and maintenance needs are made within established protocols.
