Private Sector Tenancy Sustainment Officer

Salary: Grade 12 - £28,598 to £32,061 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week

About the Role

As a Private Sector Tenancy Sustainment Officer
, you'll play a vital role in helping people secure and maintain safe, stable homes by working closely with private landlords, letting agents and residents at risk of homelessness.

This is a rewarding opportunity to build positive partnerships across the private rented sector, create sustainable housing solutions, and directly support individuals and families to access and sustain accommodation. You'll be part of a forward-thinking and collaborative Housing Service committed to preventing homelessness, supporting communities and delivering meaningful outcomes for Somerset residents.

How You’ll Make a Difference

In this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge of housing legislation, homelessness services, tenancy management and housing-related support.
  • Experience working within housing or a related service, supporting vulnerable individuals and families to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Understanding of welfare benefits, support services and the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with customers, colleagues and partner agencies.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records.
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Relevant qualifications or significant experience within housing management, social work or a related field.
What You’ll Bring

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, homelessness prevention and the challenges affecting access to housing, particularly within the private rented sector.
  • Experience working within a housing, local authority or similar customer-focused environment, supporting vulnerable individuals and managing complex cases.
  • Proven ability to build effective partnerships with landlords, letting agents, service providers and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of people.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions.
  • A proactive, customer-focused and solution-oriented approach, supported by A-Level qualifications (or equivalent) or substantial relevant frontline experience.

This role can be based at any Somerset Council office location, with hybrid working arrangements available in line with service requirements.
