Catering, Dishwasher / Kitchen Assistant
Location: City of Yonkers
Position Summary
Performs all duties related to sanitation of kitchen, dining, prep and storage areas. The employee is primarily responsible for maintaining sanitary conditions in the general kitchen area, including walls, floors and work surfaces. The employee will also ensure that all kitchen equipment and tools used for preparation and service are cleaned and sanitized according to policies and procedures, and in compliance with regulations set by State, Federal and Accrediting Agencies.
The employee also assists with the service of meals to residents, including tray assembly, delivery and removal, ensuring accurate and efficient service of children’s meals in compliance with dietary requirements. Additional duties may include supporting other health‑care dining services activities for families, guests and catered events. The employee must at all times adhere to policies and procedures and comply with regulations set by State, Federal and Accrediting Agencies.
Functions & Responsibilities

- Maintain a clean environment in the kitchen and related areas.
- Maintain work surfaces, equipment and tools clean and sanitized.
- Assist in meal assembly and delivery.
- Prepare/mix specialty formulas for residents according to recipes and diet orders.
- Maintain quality assurance logs such as temperature logs for the dish machine and sanitation logs for pots and ware washing.
- Clean office areas within the general kitchen area.
- Collect soiled bottles and dishes from unit pantries for washing.
- Participate in the setup and assembly of the children's meal trays.
- Distribute meals and snacks to residents.
- Communicate the preferences and requests expressed by children and/or their families during meal service.
- Maintain food and supplies in pantries within par levels.
- Keep countertops and refrigerators in assigned pantries clean and orderly.
- Maintain clean dining surfaces in assigned units.
- Collect diet order change forms from units.
- Prepare and distribute custom formulas to units.
- Attend all training sessions and in‑services as scheduled.
- Report hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
- Perform all tasks as detailed in the assigned work schedule.
- Check and receive deliveries of food items in the supervisor's absence or in the absence of the storeroom aide.
- Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by the supervisor, department director, or administrator.
Education Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: At least one year of food service experience in a health‑related facility.
Employee Requirements: Must read, write, speak, and understand English fluently. Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements set by NYDOH and other regulatory agencies. Must pass a medical and physical examination as required by center policies.
