As a member of the Residential Support Team, you’ll help create a safe, structured, and supportive environment for youth in care. This hands‑on role includes supervising daily activities, conducting safety and cottage checks, supporting telehealth and medical appointments, responding to crises, and assisting with transportation needs. You'll build therapeutic relationships, model trauma‑informed care, and reinforce Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
This role is ideal for someone empathetic, organized, and able to stay calm under pressure while supporting youth with complex needs.
- Supervision & Safety
- Assist in the supervision of youth on campus by patrolling grounds and nearby community. Respond to residents who are out‑of‑program or attempting to leave the campus using established protocols (e.g., "Code Yellow").
- Conduct routine cottage checks, including weekly safety checks and random or required inventory checks (e.g., contraband, hygiene, or supply audits).
- Support youth participation in telehealth appointments and assist with coordination and supervision during these sessions as needed.
- Crisis Intervention
- Respond to crisis situations when observed or called for assistance. Respond to "Code Blue" as available staff to support cottage staff during crisis situations.
- Establish and maintain appropriate and therapeutic relationships with residents.
- Develop an understanding of each resident’s strengths and needs and individualize interactions accordingly. Always maintain appropriate boundaries and model appropriate interactions for childcare staff.
- Crisis Management & Safety
- Model and ensure the appropriate use of TCI techniques including verbal de‑escalation, restraint procedures, and Life Space Interviewing.
- Behavior Management
- Implement and model PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) system fully.
- Attend all required meetings and trainings and share new and updated information with staff when necessary.
- Model core values of ROAR (Respect, On‑Task, Act Safely, and Responsibility) and frame corrections of resident behaviors in positive ways.
- Campus Support
- Provide additional staffing and support in the cottages on an as‑needed basis. Assist with other duties depending on the situational needs of the campus (e.g., transporting youth, AWOL, Police Custody retrievals).
- Transport youth to and from medical appointments, home visits, court appearances, and other approved activities, ensuring all documentation and communication protocols are followed.
- Documentation & Expectations
- Ensure proper documentation of events and timely communication with other inter‑disciplinary team members around incidents.
- Document routine cottage checks, including weekly safety checks and random or required inventory checks (e.g., contraband, hygiene, or supply audits).
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all incidents, observations, and interactions in accordance with agency policies.
- Maintain regular communication with inter‑disciplinary team members regarding youth behavior, safety concerns, incidents, or medical needs.
- Document youth participation in telehealth appointments and assist with coordination and supervision during these sessions as needed.
