Job Description & How to Apply Below
Bring your accounting expertise to a beautiful place and help shape what comes next.

Stage Neck Inn is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to lead our day-to-day accounting function, oversee the monthly close, and support our accounting team. This is an opportunity to bring your experience and fresh perspective to a well-established hospitality business as we prepare for an important transition.

With longtime team members retiring, we’re looking for someone who values the knowledge and relationships they have built while bringing a thoughtful approach to improving processes, strengthening internal controls, and creating continuity for the future.

You’ll work closely with the Inn’s fractional CFO and leadership team. You’ll take ownership of the accounting work, support and develop the existing team, and help ensure management has timely, accurate financial information to make decisions.

What you’ll doLead the monthly close and financial reporting
  • Own the monthly accounting close, including maintaining a close schedule and coordinating responsibilities across the team.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts, including cash, accounts payable, and other significant accounts; research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare a timely monthly financial reporting package, including financial statements, supporting schedules, and explanations of significant variances.
  • Partner with the fractional CFO to review results, identify issues, and improve the quality and usefulness of financial reporting.
  • Support year-end close and coordinate information for external accountants and tax preparers.
  • Prepare necessary documentation and analysis for tax planning and bank covenants.
Oversee accounting operations and support the team
  • Provide day-to-day direction, support, and coaching to accounting staff.
  • Oversee core accounting activities, including accounts payable, cash activity, and other functions assigned to the accounting team.
  • Review the team’s work for accuracy and completeness, and help resolve questions and issues.
  • Step in and assist with accounting tasks when needed. This is a working manager role.
  • Help document responsibilities, procedures, and institutional knowledge during the transition of retiring team members.
  • Work with Inn leadership and the fractional CFO to clarify responsibilities, priorities, and opportunities for staff development.
Strengthen controls and improve processes
  • Review existing accounting processes and recommend practical improvements that support accuracy, efficiency, and continuity.
  • Help establish and maintain strong internal controls over cash, disbursements, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Identify control gaps and work with leadership to develop appropriate safeguards, including approval practices and separation of duties where practical.
  • Create and maintain clear accounting procedures and documentation.
  • Investigate unusual transactions, reconcile differences, and follow issues through to resolution.
  • Help improve how accounting systems and reports are used, including identifying opportunities to streamline manual work.
  • Proactively recommend software systems and agents to create efficiencies.
What you bring
  • Strong hands-on accounting experience, including responsibility for the general ledger, reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly close.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and explaining financial results or variances.
  • Experience overseeing, coaching, or providing day-to-day guidance to accounting staff.
  • A solid understanding of internal controls and the ability to apply them in a practical, team-oriented way.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage…
