The Animal Services division serves the public by responding to and investigating animal complaints regarding stray, injured, and neglected domestic animals in York County. The department also monitors rabies vaccinations in domestic animals. This service is provided under the authority of local and state regulations.

The York County Animal Services Division is excited to hire a full-time (40 hours per week) Kennel Technician II to join the team. The purpose of this position is to provide for the care and overall well-being of the animals in the shelter, as well as maintain the public services and general operations of the shelter.

Projected Salary Range/Pay Grade 109: $18.50 - $22.20 per hour. Salary is determined based on qualifications.

Work Schedule: hours may vary based on operational needs to include evenings, weekends, holidays, and a rotating schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs daily cleaning and sanitation of kennels housing cats, dogs, and occasional livestock or wildlife in accordance with shelter standards. Maintains cleanliness and basic maintenance of general shelter environment.
  • Provides daily care to the animals in the care of York County Animal Services including feeding, watering, enrichment and socialization. Reports signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to the shelter staff.
  • Assists in daily behavior assessments of animals.
  • Performs intake of animals, including processing paperwork, assessment, vaccinations, testing, restraint, photographing, and documentation intake information in the shelter database, etc.
  • Performs public services, including processing reclamations, adoptions, lost and found or stray requests, responding to general public inquiries and microchip processing etc.
  • Maintains records and reports including supply inventory, hold reports, cash reports, call logs, etc.
  • Attends adoption and outreach events while operating a County vehicle.
  • Performs euthanasia and maintains and operates the incinerator as directed.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Six (6) months of experience working with animals or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to obtain Humane Euthanasia and Incinerator Certifications.
