Junior Garment Technologist – Maternity Cover

An established fashion and retail business is looking for a Junior Garment Technologist to join its technical team on a 12-month maternity cover contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a junior technologist with approximately one year's industry experience to develop their technical skills and gain valuable exposure across a broad product portfolio.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Garment Technologist and wider Technical team, supporting the development and production of products across Menswear, Womenswear, Kidswear and Accessories.
The RoleThe Junior Garment Technologist will support the technical team throughout the development and production process, helping to ensure products meet the required standards for fit, construction, workmanship and quality.
- Following the weekly workload set by the Garment Technologist to support the smooth running of production
- Measuring samples and assisting with sample comments relating to fit, construction and workmanship
- Communicating with suppliers across the Far East via email and virtual meetings
- Supporting the maintenance of production critical paths and helping to ensure key deadlines are achieved
- Reviewing and approving lab dips and supplier submissions
- Taking responsibility for the development and production timelines of selected orders, with support from the Garment Technologist
- Assisting with factory audit requirements alongside the Senior Garment Technologist
- Providing general technical support to the wider department as required
The ideal candidate will have:
- Approximately one year's relevant experience within a fashion brand, retailer or manufacturer
- A genuine interest in the fashion and retail industry
- An understanding of garment construction
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
- The ability to manage their own workload and work effectively to deadlines
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- The confidence to communicate with international suppliers
- The ability to take direction and learn from more senior members of the technical team
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- A Fashion or Textiles degree would be advantageous
- Adobe Illustrator experience would be beneficial
- Willingness to travel when required
- Hybrid and flexible working
- Minimum two office days per week, including Tuesday and Thursday
- 37 hours per week
- Monday to Thursday, 8am–5pm
- Early finish on Friday at 1pm
- 12-month fixed-term maternity cover
