Position:
Tutor of GCSE English (/156).
Hours:
37 hours per week (1.0 FTE). Salary:
Up to £43,408 per annum*; see salary guidance attached.

Note:
Progression beyond point 12 of the salary scale (£40,407) is subject to Tutors obtaining QTLS. Staff with Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) via the Society for Education and Training (SET) are eligible to receive an enhanced salary of £44,875 – see attached salary guidance for further details.
We are seeking a passionate and motivated English Tutor to join our team, working primarily with GCSE students aged 16‑18. In this role, you will inspire learners, build their confidence, and support them in achieving academic potential in English, ensuring they are well prepared for exams and future progression.
Key responsibilities- Plan and deliver high quality GCSE English lessons that engage and challenge students, using a variety of innovative teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Contribute to the development of creative and effective approaches to delivery, enhancing overall quality of English education across the department.
- Prepare students for their GCSE examinations through well‑designed assessments that accurately measure understanding and progress.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to learners to help them improve and succeed.
- Foster a positive, supportive learning environment promoting active participation, independent thinking, and strong problem‑solving skills.
- At least a Level 3 qualification in English; a relevant degree considered desirable.
- Recognised Level 5/6 teaching qualification such as a PGCE or Cert Ed preferred; willingness to work towards one is acceptable.
- Proven experience of teaching English at GCSE level, ideally within a further education environment.
- Confidence in delivering the GCSE curriculum and preparing learners for exams.
- Familiarity with GCSE assessment requirements and experience supporting students in an FE setting is advantageous.
- Strong administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills; collaborative approach to working within a team.
- Commitment to supporting learners, contributing to the department, and continually developing own teaching practice.
