GSL Education is looking for a dedicated and approachable Pastoral Support Officer to join a supportive school in Middlesbrough
. This role is ideal for someone who can build strong relationships with pupils, provide consistent pastoral guidance, and help create a positive and inclusive school environment.

As a Pastoral Support Officer, you will work closely with pupils, teachers, pastoral teams, and senior staff to support students with their wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, engagement, and personal development
.

You will play an important role in identifying barriers that may affect a pupil's progress and providing appropriate support to help them feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

• Provide day-to-day pastoral support to pupils.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students.
• Support pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social needs.
• Monitor and encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
• Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and attendance.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support where appropriate.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, safeguarding leads, and pastoral staff.
• Support pupils with their confidence, resilience, and personal development.
• Help manage and resolve pastoral and behavioural concerns.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate relevant information with staff.
• Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.

• Previous experience in a pastoral, education, youth work, or support role is desirable.
• Strong understanding of the challenges young people may face.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Patient, approachable, and empathetic personality.
• Confident supporting pupils with behavioural or emotional needs.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
