Are you an adaptable, confident educator looking for a role where your teaching genuinely makes a difference?
About the RoleWe are seeking a versatile Cover Tutor to join an education provider in the justice sector, stepping in to deliver learning within a prison education setting whenever a scheduled tutor is unavailable. This is a unique opportunity to support learners on their rehabilitation journey, keeping their progress on track and helping them build the skills, confidence and qualifications needed to move forward into employment, training or further education.
You’ll cover a range of subjects and sessions at short notice, working with learners who have a wide range of educational backgrounds, learning needs and abilities. Many of your learners will have had difficult experiences of education, so patience, flexibility and a genuine belief in each individual’s potential will matter as much as your teaching skill.
Your responsibilities will include:
Delivering planned lessons in the absence of the usual tutor, maintaining continuity of learning.
Adapting quickly to different subjects, groups and schemes of work.
Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a calm, purposeful learning environment.
Providing feedback to the regular tutor and the wider education team on learner progress during cover sessions.
Supporting learners with a wide range of educational backgrounds, learning needs and abilities.
Experience of teaching, training or instructing in a classroom or workshop setting
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to adapt at short notice
Patience, resilience and a genuine commitment to supporting learners facing complex barriers
Willingness to work within a secure prison environment and undergo the required vetting and clearance
A teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one
Experience working with adult learners or within an offender learning environment
Subject knowledge across more than one curriculum area
We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. All appointments are subject to satisfactory vetting, including a right to work check and, where relevant, an enhanced DBS check and HMPPS security vetting, in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Justice.
We are an equal opportunities employer. By applying, you consent to your data being processed for recruitment purposes in line with our Privacy Policy.
