Academic Associate - Creative Writing and Literature

The Academic Associate post in Creative Writing and Literature sits in the School of Humanities at York St John University, a four-year fixed-term role at 0.5 FTE. Its core is supporting undergraduate seminars, workshops, tutorials and assessment, capped at six contact hours a week over two days. It is paired with a full-time PhD, and research proposals are invited in publishing cultures, hauntology or satire.

Appointment depends on PhD acceptance, and visa sponsorship is not available.

• Undertake a full-time PhD within the School of Humanities
• Support teaching and assessment on undergraduate programmes
• Deliver seminars, workshops and tutorials, up to six contact hours a week over two days
• Carry out doctoral research in one of the invited areas

• UK undergraduate degree in Creative Writing, Literature, Publishing, English or a related subject, with first or upper second-class honours, or an overseas equivalent
• Masters in Creative Writing, Literature, Publishing or a closely related discipline, or close to completion with results received before the PhD starts

• High level of English sufficient for doctoral research, teaching, administration and communicating with staff and students

• Right to work in the UK by a route other than Skilled Worker or Graduate visa

• Acceptance onto a PhD programme at York St John University
• 1,500-word research proposal (excluding references) submitted with the application

• Tuition fee waiver or scholarship for a full-time PhD
• Training to develop teaching-related skills and professional competencies
