Location: West Yorkshire

Leeds

£65k (GBP) – £75k depending on experience, plus bonus and exceptional benefits.

Our client is part of a group that has been operating for almost 200 years. They employ over 5,500 staff worldwide and specialise in bespoke heavier engineering and materials handling activities for a diverse range of applications.

Due to the approaching retirement of a long‑established valued member of the team, the company is looking to recruit an experienced and self‑motivated Engineering Manager to be based out of their prestigious Leeds office. The role may require visiting other depots and offices as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all mechanical, electrical and software engineering personnel, ensuring alignment with company strategy and objectives.
  • Manage engineering resources—including contract staff—workloads and priorities to meet project timelines and business demands.
  • Support continuous product improvement with respect to cost, delivery time, product performance, etc., and new product development.
  • Ensure appropriate engineering involvement in business‑winning projects teams for proposal preparation and sales, providing technical oversight for new product development, modifications, upgrades and lifecycle support. Ensure engineering deliverables meet customer, quality, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare the business unit engineering strategy, and implement plans for engineering skills development, contract staff utilisation, staff allocation to projects and personnel development and recruitment.
  • Oversee configuration management, design control and change management processes, ensuring adequate communication between the engineering department and other functional departments.
  • Attend inter‑company and customer sites as required.

To be considered, the successful candidate should hold at least a degree or above in a relevant Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline. Ideally, they will hold (or be working towards) Chartered status and membership of relevant professional bodies.

The candidate must demonstrate proven engineering management experience across multidisciplinary teams, preferably in a mechanical handling environment, with significant mechanical engineering design experience, effective communication and influencing skills at all levels, and a strong understanding of engineering lifecycle management, design assurance and compliance frameworks.
