Our client is industry leading Research & Development Company, who are looking to recruit a Senior Design Engineer (project lead). Over the past 9 years they have developed an exciting new technology which has already revolutionised one market. They are now looking for innovative design engineers to join their team and take their technology into other new markets.

We are recruiting on their behalf a Senior Design Engineer. The Senior Design Engineer role is key to the business and will be responsible for a new project, which takes their current technology into a new market.

As a Senior Design Engineer you will provide design authority and leadership to support the delivery of innovative products from concept to prototype development, test & validation through to specification to manufacture. Working within the research and development team, the role will require a real self-starter who can manage the entire product development life‑cycle, including managing the external consultants, mechanical design, prototype development and stakeholder management.

Key skills will be: Strong engineering understanding, with the ability to think on your feet. Well-developed 3D CAD skills. Proficient in hand calculations and experienced in managing projects.

What we require of you?

• Lead the concept design, engineering and development
• Communicate ideas with drawings and sketches, support with in-depth technical calculations using engineering theory
• Detail development to achieve functional requirement and allow manufacture and assembly of components
• Define materials and manufacturing processes to under‑pin designs
• Act as technical lead on projects; whilst supporting and developing junior engineers
• Provide solutions to problems and initiate improvements to resolve
• Lead the creation of engineering databases and document packs

What you need?

• BEng in mechanical engineering or other relevant design or engineering discipline
• Comfortable with producing engineering calculations to backup designs
• Experience in the design and engineering of industrial machinery. Specific experience in the design of bulk material handling equipment would be beneficial.
• Hands on approach to the design and development of product solutions for industrial applications
• Good working knowledge of mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems e.g. pumps, motors, drive and conveying systems
• CAD literate, Solidworks preferred but not essential

This is a business critical role and it is important that the successful candidate is someone who will relish and indeed, rise to the challenge of project leadership, as well as being a solid mechanical design engineer.
