Engineering Technician (Fabrication and Welding)

Hours: Full time (37 hours each week, all year round)

Duration: Permanent

Salary: GBP 25,456 per year + benefits

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and proactive Engineering Technician to join our dynamic team. This varied, hands‑on role will allow you to use your expertise to shape the next generation of engineers while helping build the best training facilities in South Yorkshire. You will provide vital technical services to support the delivery of college programmes, ensuring our facilities are safe, efficient, and innovative.

As our Fabrication and Welding Technician, you will help develop workshops, collaborate with other technicians, and contribute to departmental projects.

Responsibilities
  • Workshop Preparation:
    Safe preparation and setting out of equipment and materials for practical work, demonstrations, examinations, and assessments.
  • Safety and Supervision:
    Provide safety cover during practical classes, ensuring workshops and equipment are safe for use.
  • Technical Assistance:
    Assist in the construction of apparatus and preparation of materials as detailed by academic staff.
  • Asset Management:
    Distribute tools and consumables to students, and operate an efficient system to monitor return of equipment.
  • Maintenance and Cleanliness:
    Carry out routine maintenance on machinery and equipment, ensuring workshops are clean, tidy, and safe and that waste materials are disposed of according to college policy.
  • Stock and Ordering:
    Monitor levels of tools, equipment, and consumables, order replacements as required, and maintain accurate stock records.
  • Security and Operations:
    Ensure the security of workshops and equipment by locking doors and storage areas; notify the Curriculum Team Leader of any loss or damage.

    Collaboration:

    Attend and contribute to team meetings, provide First Aid after appropriate training, and support other areas of the college when required.
Qualifications
  • Industry

    Experience:

    Proven experience working within the fabrication and welding industry, bringing current practices and practical knowledge to our workshops.
  • Qualifications:

    Hold a Level 2 or above professionally related qualification in Fabrication and Welding; hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths, or be willing to undertake.
  • Team Player Mentality:
    Eager to be an active part of the Fabrication and Welding team and drive the continuous development of the workshop environment.
