Electronics Engineer, Test Engineer
I’m supporting a long-standing client based near Leeds, a leading RF/microwave technology manufacturer working across space, defence, high-reliability communications and next-generation connectivity hardware. They’re scaling quickly, with record commercial growth and major programme wins across their filter, mmWave and subsystem product lines.
They’re now looking to bring in a Senior RF Filter Engineer to take ownership of RF/microwave filter design projects from concept through to delivery. This Senior RF Filter Engineer will sit within their core RF/microwave engineering group, focusing on advanced filter design, NPI support and cross-functional collaboration across engineering, operations and customer-facing functions.
Role Overview – Senior RF Filter EngineerYou’ll lead the design, simulation, prototyping, tuning, verification and release of high-performance RF/microwave filters and filter-based subsystems, supporting both R&D activity and customer programmes. The focus is on delivering technically strong, manufacturable designs that meet performance, cost and schedule targets.
Key Responsibilities- Own end-to-end RF/microwave filter and sub-system design — simulation, prototyping, validation
- Contribute to next-generation filter R&D initiatives
- Support sales/commercial teams during quotation phases and engage directly with customers when required
- Compile and check all design documentation (logbooks, data packs, reviews, NPI documentation) for design release
- Deliver fully verified, production-ready designs within project constraints
- Prepare and review tollgate documentation in line with internal NPI processes
- Lead and participate in design reviews, identifying risks and mitigation actions
- Conduct full design verification and validation (test plans, reports, reliability testing)
- Maintain an accurate design compliance matrix with evidence of compliance
- Support product introduction, troubleshoot issues and create diagnostic/training procedures
- Degree (or equivalent) in RF/Microwave Engineering or related field
- Strong experience in RF/microwave filter design including tolerance/yield analysis, power handling, thermal drift and DFM considerations
- Skilled in Microwave Office, CST Studio and Spark3D
- Hands‑on tuning experience with RF/microwave filters using VNAs, power‑handling and temperature testing
- Strong documentation and communication skills, able to work effectively with customers and internal teams
- Highly motivated, proactive and comfortable working across multi‑disciplinary engineering functions
Responsibilities may evolve as programmes and customer needs grow.
