Prison Mental Health Nurse - Development Post

Position Overview

HMP Millsike are looking for a Mental Health Nurses / Clinical Leads to provide mental health care to patients. This role will be responsible for assessment and caseload management of those referred into Mental health services within HMP Millsike, working as part of a stepped care model. You will be supporting your team to carry out comprehensive assessments, confidently communicating treatment options and initiating supportive care plans, and providing evidence-based interventions alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team.

This vacancy is open to Band 5 Registered Nurses with a minimum of 12 months post qualification experience and successful completion of preceptorship. This is a developmental post with progression to a Band 6 upon meeting the criteria within the Band 6 job description and competency framework specific to Health & Justice Services. Candidates will work across urgent and planned services in order to develop knowledge, skills and experience.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required as well and an ability to work under pressure and with initiative. We are looking for clinicians who will thrive working in a busy environment amongst a wider well resourced team of multidisciplinary professionals, as well as alongside partner providers from a variety of internal and external services.

HMP Millsike will have an operational capacity of 1500 people who will spend their sentences learning the skills they need to find work on release as part of the government's drive to cut reoffending. Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust were recently awarded the Mental Health Service contract to begin delivering services in April 2025.
