West Yorkshire’s Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector plays a vital role in ensuring the benefits of devolution reach all our people and communities.
Across West Yorkshire, our key sector also:
- makes an estimated £5bn p.a. contribution to the regional economy;
- which is produced by 5,700 registered and an estimated 7,400 unregistered community and charitable organisations;
- is delivered by a total of 126,000 volunteers and 32,000 employees.
That’s why West Yorkshire’s Combined Authority, Local Authorities, and Local Infrastructure Organisations are working in partnership to establish a new VCSE Advisory Group. This new group will act as advocates, champions, and ambassadors for this important and valued sector.
The Advisory Group will serve as the VCSE sector’s strategic point of contact with the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The roleFollowing the recent successful recruitment of members to the Advisory Group, we are now looking for a VCSE leader to fulfil the role of Chair to drive the work of the Group. They will represent the Group to stakeholders, including the Mayor of West Yorkshire.
- an established and effective leader from a VCSE organisation
- experience in the role of chair
- an understanding of the changing political landscape in which the VCSE sector operates, and how to work effectively within it
The time commitment is expected to be around 1 day a month. It's a voluntary role, although a support and development package is available to recognise the time commitment and to enable leaders from smaller organisations to participate.
