We are seeking a dynamic and motivated GI Cancer Care Coordinator to join our supportive Cancer Nursing Team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals. Our team is committed to delivering excellent care and improving the experience of people affected by GI cancers, and your role will make a meaningful difference.

We are looking for a proactive, compassionate individual who can work independently and as part of a busy multidisciplinary team. You will support specialist nurses in providing safe, effective, high‑quality care.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and feel confident working with clinicians, patients, and allied professionals. You will demonstrate empathy and provide clear, reassuring information to patients and families, often in emotive situations. Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and confidence using a range of IT systems are essential, along with the ability to manage confidential information appropriately.

You should be self‑motivated and committed to ongoing personal and professional development.

This is a full‑time role (37.5 hours per week) based primarily at York Hospital.

Manage a vast and complex GI cancer cohort, including patients requiring ongoing CNS input and holistic support, alongside those on a GI remote surveillance follow‑up programme. Being a consistent point of contact across the cancer pathway, building therapeutic relationships with patients and families to ensure they feel informed, supported, and involved in decision‑making, while advocating for personalised care aligned with individual preferences.

Deliver autonomous nurse‑led clinics, communicating cancer diagnoses, providing follow‑up information, and supporting patients through complex and emotive discussion. Undertake comprehensive assessments across treatment pathway, follow‑up, survivorship and supportive care, identifying priorities and delivering specialist advice and interventions.

Apply expert clinical judgement to triage needs, initiate timely investigations and escalate concerns to the MDT as required. Request and interpret investigations, make autonomous decisions regarding follow‑up surveillance or onward referral.

Utilise digital systems to support real‑time patient management, including oversight of the GI surveillance platform, reviewing results, identifying patients requiring escalation and ensuring continuity and safety of care.

Maintain evidence‑based practice in line with national guidance, contributing to audit, service improvement, education and mentorship to promote consistent, high‑quality care across the team.
