Position: NOC 22111 - Agricultural and fish products inspectors

Job Summary

Inspect agricultural and fish products, facilities, and handling processes to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Perform sampling, testing coordination, documentation, and stakeholder communication to support food safety and market access.

Main Duties
  • Conduct on-site inspections of farms, fisheries, processing plants, storage and transport facilities to assess product safety and quality.
  • Collect product and environmental samples, perform basic tests, and coordinate laboratory analysis as required.
  • Review records and documentation for traceability, sanitation, processing controls, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify non-compliances, issue corrective action reports or notices, and perform follow‑up inspections to verify remediation.
  • Monitor handling, packaging, storage and transportation practices to prevent contamination, spoilage or cross‑contamination.
  • Prepare clear inspection reports, communicate findings to stakeholders, and support enforcement or recall activities when necessary.
Requirements
  • Post‑secondary diploma or degree in food science, agriculture, biology, fisheries or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in food safety, quality assurance, inspection, or laboratory environments.
  • Knowledge of food safety and quality standards, sampling procedures, and sanitation principles.
  • Proficiency in inspection documentation, record‑keeping and basic computer applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to liaise with producers, processors and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to inspection sites and perform physical tasks in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions.

  • Attention to detail and strong observational abilities.
  • Sampling and basic testing techniques with an understanding of chain‑of‑custody.
  • Accurate report writing and record‑keeping skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations, standards and technical guidelines.

  • Problem‑solving and decision‑making in field inspection contexts.
