Instructional Assistant – Yorktown Elementary

POSITION:
Instructional Aide

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:
As Set by the Board of School Trustees

Hours M‑F 8:00 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.

SALARY: $15.48/hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

High School Diploma or GED with para‑pro certification. Ability to communicate electronically using Word, Excel, Publisher, Google Docs, Outlook.

Preferred:
Associate Degree

Building Principal

Building Principal or Designee

Summary
  • Plan and teach age‑appropriate art lessons for elementary students
  • Introduce students to various art techniques and materials
  • Encourage creativity and self‑expression through hands‑on projects
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe art classroom
  • Systematically plan instruction, develop clear requirements, utilize approved curriculum, and keep accurate records
  • Provide instruction under supervision of the building principal or classroom teacher
Essential Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
  • Systematically plans instruction.
  • Develops clear requirements and expectations and communicates these to students.
  • Utilizes the approved curriculum.
  • Has teaching materials readily available for each session.
  • Includes activities which enable students to develop written and oral communication skills.
  • Explains content effectively; puts ideas across logically and in an orderly way.
  • Uses appropriate and well‑defined techniques to measure student progress.
  • Keeps a current and accurate record of student progress and attendance.
  • Makes efficient and productive use of instructional time.
  • Maintains complete, accurate, and legible records.
  • Provides plans and other necessary information for substitutes.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality.
  • Fulfills assigned supervisory duties.
Student Management Skills
  • Provides reinforcement for positive behavior.
  • Deals effectively and consistently with inappropriate behavior.
  • Adheres to school discipline policies.
  • Is consistent and fair in dealing with students.
  • Promotes a warm, open, and accepting climate.
Relationship with Supervisors
  • Communicates with supervisors regarding student achievement, behavior, and attendance.
  • Takes timely and appropriate action with regard to supervisors' requests and concerns.
  • Uses tact and courtesy in relationships with staff and administrators.
Supervision
  • Supervises students as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
  • The ability to work independently using Microsoft Word, Excel (including mail merge, formulas, and spreadsheets), Publisher, etc. to prepare, create, edit, design memos, reports, letters, and newsletters.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills in order to relate to students, parents, staff, administrators, and community. The ability to negotiate effective working relationships, and develop position resolutions to conflict.
  • Strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple issues simultaneously combined with ability to effectively prioritize.
  • The ability to work independently and within a team while maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • The ability to communicate electronically. Possess highly developed technology skills.
