Position: Protective Services Dispatcher – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital (PRN)

Protective Services Dispatcher – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital (PRN)

Under general supervision, perform duties related to the operation of the protective services dispatch center involving incoming communication for emergency and non-emergency assistance; simultaneously operating a multi-channel radio system while maintaining computer-aided dispatch systems and other computer systems.

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for receiving, coordinating, and disseminating critical information from various sources including emergency and non-emergency calls for service; maintains radio contact with mobile/field units to monitor response, progress, and any needed support.
  • Determines nature and location of emergencies, prioritizes, dispatches emergency personnel, and implements emergency procedures; monitors and troubleshoots alarm systems.
  • Operates communications equipment and monitors security systems including CCTV, access control, fire alarm, building automation, and burglar/panic alarms.
  • Documents and maintains records of assigned units for time, location, and dispatch details; provides information to outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Processes employees and others through the photo badging identification system; offers callers resources and services as needed.
  • Answer and direct incoming calls using a multi-line phone system, ensuring prompt and courteous communication with patients, staff, and external callers.
  • Performs general clerical duties which include filing, indexing, record keeping, lost and found, and issuing parking permits.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED (required)

1-2 years of experience in security and/or telephone operations/dispatch (preferred)

Working Conditions

High stress and fluctuating workloads; exposed to high noise levels, bright lights, physical altercations, verbal abuse; may be required to use physical restraints and expose to human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Travel to off-site locations occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Skills
  • Ability to type 35-40 wpm and strong documentation skills under pressure.
  • Proficient in operating multi-line telephone systems, taking and prioritizing emergency and non-emergency calls.
  • Proficient in using two-way radios and dispatch consoles and entering data as appropriate.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Calm demeanor, clear communication, active listening, multitasking, empathy, teamwork, professionalism, attention to detail, conflict de-escalation.
  • Handles sensitive information with integrity and respect for privacy.
