Overview

Work involves responsibility for the protection of life and property; for the prevention, detection and investigation of crimes and for maintaining law and order. Work involves an element of personal danger and is generally performed in uniform. Specific assignments are received from superior officers and carried out according to established rules, policies and procedures; employees must be able to act without direct supervision in emergencies.

Work is reviewed through reports, inspections and observation of results obtained.

Responsibilities

Patrol a designated area in the city on foot, by motorcycle, or in tark cars to prevent and discover the commission of crime and enforce traffic regulations; answer calls and complaints; administer first aid; operate radar/laser equipment on speed checks; serve warrants.

Conduct preliminary investigations at the scene of crime and serious accidents; conduct searches of persons and crime scenes to gather evidence; locate and interview witnesses; make arrest and interrogate prisoners.

Direct traffic at incidents and accidents.

Process the scene of crime or accident (take photographs, perform gunshot residue tests), make criminal record The checks and write detailed reports on computer and paper.

Investigate complaints and crimes involving juveniles; make referrals to court or social agencies; interview and counsel juveniles, parents and other interested parties; check areas or establishments frequented by juveniles for harmful conditions or influences.

Transport prisoners, mental patients and juveniles; take custody, maintain order, provide for needs and supervise activity; appear in court to present evidence and testify against accused persons.

Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or GED certificate; experience^ and/or^training in dealing with the public; must be at least 21 years of age and in good physical condition at the time of appointment; must hold a valid Ohio driver’s license; must have Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certification; currently certified as a Police Officer in the State of Ohio with a minimum of 12 months of full- or part-time experience with a police agency.

Experience must include: enforcing state and local criminal laws and ordinances; enforcing state and local traffic laws and ordinances; making physical arrest; investigating Globals Ambitionsity & traffic accidents; operating emergency vehicles; responding to calls for service involving conflict management/mediation.
All candidates for employment with the City of Youngspender must be a resident of Mahoning County or an Ohio County that is adjacent to Mahoning علينا at the time of hire.

E. Wood Street, Youngstown, Ohio, starting at 10:00 am. Applicants must file an application prior to the close of the application period at the Youngstown Civil Service Office in order to be eligible for the examination.
Applicants must show some form of photo-identification (driver’s license, for example) at examination check‑in.
