Position Summary
Meridian Health Care is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Medical Billing Specialist to join our billing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical billing procedures, insurance verification, and payment posting. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate billing, timely payments, and effective communication with patients, payers, and internal departments. The Medical Billing Specialist works closely with the Billing Manager to maintain compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across all billing operations.
Responsibilities- Accurately enter patient information and billing data into the system.
- Verify accuracy of billing data and make necessary corrections.
- Review and check the status of insurance claims as needed.
- Monitor aging reports and take steps to ensure timely payment of claims.
- Post payments from all payers and patients (both automated and manual).
- Maintain and resolve clearinghouse rejections.
- Identify and resolve patient billing questions and complaints.
- Participate in take-back, over payment, and refund processes.
- Recognize problem accounts and notify appropriate staff or supervisors for resolution.
- Participate in staff development and training per agency policy.
- Report unusual incidents and accidents according to agency procedures.
- Participate in agency health and safety practices and drills.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision meetings, and committee meetings as designated.
- Uphold all agency policies, procedures, and regulations; support Meridian’s mission and philosophy.
- Maintain professional appearance and positive working relationships internally and externally.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Billing Manager or Chief Business Officer.
- High School Diploma required.
- Medical billing education or at least two (2) years of relevant billing experience required.
- Strong data entry and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with insurance claims, payment posting, and electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
