Xray Tech - Radiology Dept.

Summary:

The Radiological Technologist is a certified health professional who, under the direction of an authorized user, applies the art and skill of diagnostic imaging through the safe and effective use of ionizing radiation in diagnostic radiology.

Responsibilities
  • Obtains patient s clinical history and appropriate lab work, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
  • Positions and immobilizes patient to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Performs radiographic procedures by selecting and operating imaging equipment and related accessories.
  • Verifies informed consent and completes pre- and post-procedure documentation.
  • Assists licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures; applies appropriate aseptic technique as needed.
  • Performs timeouts as required per policy.
  • Identifies, prepares and/or administers medications/contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Receives, relays and documents verbal, written and electronic orders in the patient s medical record.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality and documents patient dose exposures.
  • Interacts professionally with physicians, technologists, hospital staff, patient family members, and patients.
  • Operates radiographic equipment and accessories in accordance with the principles of ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable).
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Associate s degree from an ARRT-accredited program (preferred).
  • Certifications:

    ARRT certification and registration (required).
  • State licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is performed).
  • BLS Basic Life Support (required at hire for some locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at others).
  • Training: EPIC EHR (preferred);
    Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) (preferred).
  • Experience:

    1 year in radiation safety and patient care (preferred); experience with Radiology Information System (preferred).
Working Conditions & Patient Population
  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads; may be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
  • May be exposed to hazardous substances or body fluids; may be required to use physical restraints.
  • General office environment; may require travel to off-site locations; prolonged periods of working alone.
  • Patient populations include neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

  • Patient-centered care; ability to monitor patient conditions during examination.
  • Attention to detail; critical thinking; effective communication and conflict resolution.
  • Active listening and relationship building; ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
