Position Summary

Meridian Health Care is seeking a Behavioral Health Manager to support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered services within our Residential Counseling programs at the Judge Joseph Donofrio Center. Meridian serves individuals experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions through compassionate, evidence-based care. The Behavioral Health Manager provides both direct care and clinical leadership—mentoring and supervising therapists and therapist assistants, facilitating staff training, and ensuring compliance with clinical documentation standards.

This position plays a vital role in promoting staff and patient wellness, as well as community reintegration, through coordinated, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide person-centered care through individual and group counseling.
  • Review external patient referrals for clinical necessity and potential admission.
  • Implement and develop patient programming, including group counseling and recreational activities.
  • Mentor and guide therapists and therapist assistants through case consultation, conceptualization, and performance feedback.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to refine workflows, improve quality, and support effective program delivery.
  • Support onboarding and training of new staff through modeling, shadowing, and documentation guidance.
  • Facilitate or co-lead team meetings and interdisciplinary case reviews with clinical, medical, and housing staff.
  • Coordinate care with discharge planners to ensure continuity of care following program completion.
  • Participate in incident reporting, risk management, and emergency response as needed.
  • Promote and uphold trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and recovery-oriented principles in all aspects of service delivery.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • Active and unencumbered LISW or LPCC license required; supervisory designation preferred or eligible within six months of hire.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in community behavioral health.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting individual and group counseling, as well as staff supervision.
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation standards, ethical practices, and social determinants of health.
  • Familiarity with ASAM criteria and prior authorization procedures.
  • Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions.
  • Understanding of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and best practices in counseling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, leadership ability, and teamwork orientation.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Office Suite.
