Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) in Medical/Surgical functions as a care provider in a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering patient care using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN possesses knowledge of patient age and cultural diversity, demonstrates strong time‑management and prioritization skills, contributes to quality nursing care, collaborates with professional disciplines, and supports the mission of the ministry to provide physical and psychological support to patients and families.

Full time Nights: 7 p m – 7 30 a m

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to establish goals and strategies for discharge or continuing care needs.
• Perform and document complete patient assessments, initiate and maintain current nursing care plans for assigned patients, and identify patient learning needs for individualized teaching.
• Administer medications safely in accordance with state practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies and procedures.
• Serve as a point of contact for patient care coordination throughout hospital departments.
• Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in quality improvement initiatives in the department.
• Advocate for patients in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics.
• Contribute to performance improvement initiatives and collaborate with other professional disciplines.

• Current RN license in the state of work or covered by compact (required).
• BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire; must obtain before patient care; ACLS acceptable in lieu of BLS).
• Medical‑Surgical Nursing Certification (RN‑BC) (preferred).
• CCRN Critical Care Registered Nurse (preferred).
• PCCN Progressive Care Certified Nurse (preferred).
• CMSRN Certified Medical‑Surgical Registered Nurse (preferred).
• National Institute of Health (NIH) Stroke Certification (preferred).

• Bachelor of Science Nursing (preferred).

• One year of RN experience (required); accepts new graduates and RN’s with less than 1 year experience.
• Six months RN experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred).

• Assigns patient care according to nursing skill, knowledge, and scope of practice of staff.
• Orients, facilitates learning experience, and provides education to nursing staff and others.
• Possesses clinical knowledge, skills, and competency to provide evidence‑based patient care in accordance with current standards of practice, policies, and procedures, and BSMH mission.
• Performs comprehensive assessment of patient’s clinical condition and psychosocial needs.
• Safely and efficiently develops, implements, and prioritizes plan of care.
• Applies the nursing process in patient care delivery.
• Assesses patient’s physical and emotional responses to treatment and revises plan of care accordingly.
• Assists patient and family in coping with illness.
• Collaborates with others for coordinated patient care.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
