Position Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Nursing services in planning, organizing, developing and directing the day-to‑day operations of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with current Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern Heritage Manor, and as may be directed by the Administrator, the Medical Director or the Director of Nursing, to ensure that the highest quality of care is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in organizing and administering the Department of Nursing.
  • Assumes responsibilities delegated by the Director of Nursing Service.
  • Assists with Annual and 90‑day evaluations.
  • Assists the professional nursing staff in the development and utilization of the nursing care plan for all residents.
  • Reviews nursing records to assure the nurses are documenting care given in accordance to state regulations.
  • Organizes and administers orientation and staff educational programs for nursing personnel, ensuring yearly certification hours for State‑Tested Nursing Assistants.
  • Attends and participates in all mandated committees, interdisciplinary conferences and Utilization Review.
  • Works with unit supervisors to schedule yearly influenza vaccines for residents and staff.
  • Maintains schedules for dental and eye care, and ensures documentation in residents’ charts for each visit.
  • Serves as QA Infection Control Grievance Officer.
  • Track call‑offs and attendance, and administer disciplinary actions.
  • Assists with admission and discharge of every resident, planning the nursing services portion of each resident’s stay.
  • Assists the Director of Nursing in determining staff needs, ensuring a sufficient number of staff for each unit.
  • Implements and updates resident care policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the Nursing Service Procedure Manual is current and reflects day‑to‑day nursing care procedures.
  • Reviews department policies and procedures, and makes recommendations for revisions.
  • Ensures nursing staff follow their respective job descriptions.
  • Assists in the dining room during breakfast and as needed.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the Heritage Manor quality assurance program.
  • Serves on, participates in and attends various facility committees.
  • Performs daily rounds of the Nursing Services department to ensure all duties are carried out according to standards.
  • Participates in the selection/interviewing process of residents for admissions.
  • Develops and maintains an effective orientation program for new employees.
  • Assists the Director of Nursing in identifying and classifying routine and job‑related functions to reduce exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Ensures personnel are aware of each resident’s plan of care.
  • Monitors nursing care to treat residents fairly and with dignity and respect.
  • Maintains safety of all residents to minimize fire or accident risks.
  • Investigates all nursing department employee accidents according to facility safety standard.
  • Orders routine labs and receives copies of all lab orders.
  • Runs new monthly orders for change over and audits orders.
  • Maintains lab schedules, classifies physician orders, and follows up on all orders.
  • Tracks Relias completion.
  • Interacts with residents, families, facility and corporate staff.
  • Carries out other tasks as requested when hands‑on interventions are required.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, additional hours and in different positions as needed.
  • Must provide yearly negative tuberculosis skin test as required by law.
  • Must be on call as directed by the Director of Nursing.

Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Ohio State Board of Nursing license.
  • Preferred 5‑10 years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Interest in the geriatric population and patience, tact, and courtesy in dealing with residents, families and visitors.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with nursing personnel and other staff.
