Diesel Mechanic

Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Youngstown, Ohio.

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance.
• Diagnoses complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer tools where applicable.
• Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision.
• Replaces defective components as instructed and works unsupervised on most tasks.
• Performs facility maintenance duties and interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of the complaint.
• Utilizes shop management system and electronic documentation.
• Complies with all safety, DOT, MOT, and corporate guidelines.
• Acts as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels and demonstrates ability to access internal and external maintenance documents.
• Other support duties as required to support operations, including Service Island support.
• Complete OEM online diagnostic tool software courses as required by location fleet mix.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational/technical certification or post-secondary degree preferred.
• Basic tools required;
• Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work) and basic diagnostics (including AC and electrical systems).
• Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred.
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred; other location-specific certifications as required by location.
• Must have minimum 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment.
• Ability to drive Ryder vehicles; must obtain CDL within 6 months after hire, pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background/motor vehicle checks for the last 3 years.

Important Note: Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and road test; and/or customer-specific badging or background requirements.

• Hourly pay: $29.50 per hour.
• Certification bonus of $100 per new ASE certification obtained (up to $700).
• Quarterly bonus: up to $500 per quarter (four times per year).
• Sign-on bonuses: $2,500 at 30 days and $2,500 at 90 days.
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday; weekends off.
• On-the-job paid training; medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match; paid time off accrues from day one (80 hours/year).
