** Ideally looking for someone to work 1 day per week/weekend until December, then full-time role to cover a maternity leave starting in December.**
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Pathology Assistant is responsible for gross description and complete dissection of all surgical specimens under the authorization and supervision of the attending pathologist. The pathology assistant interprets clinical findings and medical histories and prepares tissue for microscopic examination under the supervision of the pathologist as deemed necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides gross description and complete dissection of all surgical specimens.Prepares tissue sections for microscopic examination (i.e., frozen sections, electron microscopy, immunofluorescence).Obtains, analyzes and interprets patient histories to include radiographs, scans, laboratory data and previous pathology reports.Photography of surgical specimen and other pertinent items.Interacts with surgeons and/or staff to assist in the diagnosis of all surgical specimens.Assists with other projects and duties as assigned and works within the scope of position, including QA and other metrics.ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION :
Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies specialized as a Pathology Assistant.
CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE: Certification as a Pathology Assistant through ASCP is preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE :
Experience in gross/surgical dissection of simple to complex (cancer) cases.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ABILITIES & SKILLS):
Knowledge of patient care procedures and organizational policies related to position responsibilities.Proficient/knowledgeable in medical terminology.Ability to perform mathematical calculations needed during the course of performing essential job duties.Proficient in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including but not limited to, electronic medical records, email, e-learning, intranet, Microsoft Word and Excel, and computer navigation. Ability to use other software as required while performing the essential functions of the job.Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms, including proper phone etiquette. Demonstrates group presentation skills, either in-person or virtually.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment; displays courteous and friendly demeanor.
