The Outreach Coordinator is part of the Education, Outreach and Welcoming Team which is responsible for designing and carrying out the agency’s education, outreach, and welcoming efforts across the community. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for providing crisis assessments and short-term interventions while working on connecting them internally to Ozone House services or externally to community partners. Additionally, this position will provide staffing support at the Drop-In Center and conduct educational presentations and outreach activities to increase awareness of Ozone House services in local schools and community-based organizations.
This position is directly responsible for the supervision and leadership of peer-outreach workers.
Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field (required)
Experience Requirements- 2+ years of experience working with homeless, exploited, or other high-risk youth
- 3+ years facilitation and outreach experience (preferred)
- 3+ years’ experience in crisis intervention and customer service
- Proven experience engaging with diverse identities, including intersecting identities of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background and sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to best practices including Positive Youth Development, Harm-Reduction, Housing First and Trauma Informed approaches/models
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, data entry and web navigation
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to take initiative. Demonstrate a high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness
- Successful completion of pre-employment and annual background check; valid driver’s license, current insurance, and access to reliable transportation
- Valid MI driver’s license, current insurance, and access to reliable transportation
- Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to produce quality work within tight time frames and simultaneously manage several projects; ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
- Familiarity with planning and executing events, including logistics, budgeting, and promotion
- Familiarity with document preparation, editing, and storage systems
- Awareness of knowledge of the issues and challenges faced by underrepresented individuals
- Proficient in communication strategies for internal and external audiences
- Awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity, and the ability to work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, understanding the impact of culture on individuals and communities
- Demonstrated ability in exercising tact, discretion, and diplomacy
- Proficient in the ability to actively listen and use empathy to understand the experiences and needs of others
- Strong collaborator to maximize effective outcomes
