About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within a primary school in Treorchy. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity offering consistency and the chance to make a meaningful difference in a child’s educational and emotional development.

The successful candidate will work closely alongside the class teacher to create and maintain a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment tailored to the pupil’s individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD
Support the pupil’s emotional regulation and engagement with learning
Implement strategies to manage behaviour linked to trauma and additional needs
Work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider school staff
Foster a safe, nurturing, and predictable environment
Monitor and report on the pupil’s progress and wellbeing
Essential Requirements:

Experience working with children with ASD
Proven experience supporting children affected by trauma
A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or prior experience working with children with ALN
Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies
Ability to build trusting, positive relationships with pupils
Calm, patient, and resilient approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:

Experience in a primary school setting
Training in trauma-informed practice or de-escalation techniques
