Parent And Community Liaison
Under the supervision and direction of the school site administrator, coordinates services and provides supplemental support for students and their families, with a focus on increasing attendance and achievement outcomes for identified student groups. Facilitates outreach and serves as a communications liaison between families, community agencies and the school.
Representative duties include providing outreach to parents regarding supplemental parent programs, committees and educational events. Invites parent participation and enlists parent volunteers. Makes direct contact with parents in support of school site objectives. Maintains record of parent contacts and attendance at meetings or engagement events. Assists in the presentation of parent workshops for families on topics of interest and to enhance connections within the schools.
Explains services available to students and families within the district and community. Explains how to utilize parent communication and student information systems. Encourages family connection to the school and bridges cultural and socioeconomic differences. Participates in public awareness activities at the school, district or during community events which may include evening and weekend hours. Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall objective of the position.
Employment standards include knowledge of the general community, school and district programs. Ability to assist teaching staff and administrator with implementation of programs and activities to accomplish outreach goals. Oral and written communication skills appropriate to providing parent information on behalf of the school site and related programs. Proficiency in record keeping and basic office technology. Facilitates meetings and presentations to parent groups.
Positive demeanor and ability to work cooperatively with families and students in a way that builds connection to the school and recognizes cultural and socioeconomic differences.
Physical abilities include exchanging information in person and on the telephone. Reading and understanding a variety of materials. Possessing dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment and perform the necessary functions of the position. Standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Ambulatory ability to move about office, classroom and school grounds. Bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and stooping on a regular basis.
Reaching horizontally and above the shoulders to perform job functions. Climbing a stool or ladder and reaching above the shoulders. Operating standard office equipment and technology required for use in the position. Working effectively under pressure, handling multiple priorities, tasks, demands and time sensitive situations.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with students and parents in an educational or social service setting and proficiency in a second language is desired.
