Sutter County Probation is seeking Deputy Probation Officer's I or II candidate to join their team!
This vacancy may fill at either the I or II level. Candidates need to only apply once; all applications will be screened for the minimum requirements at the highest level they are qualified for.
RECRUITMENT TESTING SCHEDULEDPO II candidates will be certified directly to the department for a hiring interview.
DPO I candidates can expect the following testing schedule:
-REMOTELY PROCTORED, WRITTEN EXAMJanuary 28, 2026 through February 4, 2026.
- Exact testing dates and times will be scheduled with you directly by the testing agency. Multiple dates and times will be available.
- If you have a previous California BSCC Selection Exam for adult Corrections Officer, Juvenile Corrections Officer, and Probation Officer Classifications dated within the last year and want to use that score, please be sure to attach it as a PDF with your application. If provided with your application, you will not be required to take the written exam.

- Deputy Probation Officer I – Salary: $59,238.40 - $85,280.00 Annually
- Deputy Probation Officer II – Salary: $66,185.60 - $90,688.00 Annually
Deputy Probation Officers at both levels also receive:
- Bachelor's degree education incentive of $100 per month
- Annual clothing allowance
- Tuition reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year

Deputy Probation Officer IKnowledge of:
Basic principles of applied psychology and sociology; interviewing techniques; human behavior and dynamics.
Ability to:
Learn the principles and practices of current adult and juvenile probation work; learn state laws and county ordinances affecting adults and juvenile probation; learn current casework techniques applicable to probation work; understand and deal effectively with offenders; work effectively with a multi-cultural population; analyze investigative material; make proper deductions and recommendations; determine truth of statements; work cooperatively with peace officers and related social service agencies;
speak and write effectively.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, or related field. Successful completion of 176 hours of California Probation Officer Core Course Training within the first year of employment, and a minimum of forty hours each year thereafter.
Knowledge of:
Principles of community corrections, social casework, and court procedures; federal, state, and local laws and ordinances affecting adult and juvenile probation work; principles and findings of applied psychology and sociology; the causes, extent, prevention, and control of crime and delinquency; interviewing and counseling techniques.
Ability to:
Understand and deal effectively with offenders; analyze investigative material and make proper deductions; determine the truth of statements; work cooperatively with peace officers and related social agencies; speak and write effectively; exercise skilled judgment when supervising offenders.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, behavioral science or related field; minimum of two years of professional probation work experience equivalent to work performed by a Deputy Probation Officer I, which demonstrates the ability to perform at the journey level and includes the successful completion of the California Probation Officer Core Course Training; completion of a minimum of forty hours of in-service training per year.
