Base Pay Range$45,760.00/yr - $49,920.00/yr
LocationIn-Field: Yuba, City, CA
Location Status: Work will be primarily performed at a designated field worksite location based out of a central Race Communications worksite. Frequent travel to and work from other Race offices or other off-site locations will be required.
Compensation & ScheduleHourly Rate: $22-$24 USD per hour
Shift: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day

Position ImpactThe Drop Technician II focuses on the installation, maintenance, and repair of the last‑mile connectivity infrastructure, often referred to as the “drop.” They ensure telecom services, including internet, phone, and television, are delivered effectively to residential and business customers. Responsibilities include installing and terminating fiber optics, connecting them to customer premises, troubleshooting connectivity issues, diagnosing and rectifying problems promptly, and maintaining accurate work records.
Requirements& Qualifications
- Eligibility for US Employment without sponsorship
- Minimum 21 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED or equivalent (preferred)
- Valid California driver’s license (verified through DMV check)
- Minimum of 6 months experience as a Drop Technician or similar fiber optics role
- Solid understanding of drop processes, GO95 codes, utility markings, and fiber network design maps, splice plans, MOPs
- Experience in fiber optic splicing/termination is a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and teleconferencing applications
- Strong communication skills in English (spoken, written, comprehension)
- Proficiency in Spanish is desirable
- Proficient use of MS Office (Teams, etc.)
- Functional use of common office equipment
- Ability to distinguish colors and audible tones
- Install and maintain aerial and underground fiber optic cable on customer premises
- Install and replace aerial and underground fiber drop cable
- Terminate fiber drop cable, install exterior DMARC clam shell, and repair underground conduit
- Provide exceptional customer service during on‑site visits
- Operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks, excavators, and trenchers; climb poles up to 40 feet and operate bucket trucks with 32+ foot ladders
- Manage deployment and removal of traffic control devices to ensure safety on streets or roadways
- Maintain vehicle and equipment pre‑op/post‑op, sustain a clean driving record, and manage travel across multiple locations
- Observe hazards, report concerns, participate in investigations, complete pre‑job safety planning tools and safety paperwork
- Maintain safety awareness regarding uneven terrain, loose pets, slippery walkways, aggressive animals, and other live obstacles
