Federal Work Study, Peer Mentor/MESA at San Bernardino Community College District (Crafton Hills College). This hourly position provides continuous support to students in the MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) program. The Mentor will build relationships, offer guidance, and promote academic success across the campus.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain meaningful mentoring relationships with assigned MESA students.
- Serve as a positive academic, social, and professional role model.
- Attend and participate in MESA Mentor training, meetings, and professional development workshops.
- Maintain regular communication with MESA students through in-person meetings, email, and campus events.
- Encourage student engagement in MESA activities, workshops, and other events.
- Educate students about resources within the MESA program and across the campus.
- Work collaboratively with fellow mentors, staff, and faculty to create an inclusive environment for all students.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding any personal or academic information shared by students.
- Notify the MESA Director, Counselor, or staff of any student concerns or challenges.
- Assist with MESA outreach, recruitment, and community-building events as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Active member in good standing of the MESA program.
- Possession of a current Federal Work Study award letter.
- Maintained Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Enrollment of at least 6 units (half‑time). Minimum 2.0 GPA.
- Familiarity with equipment/tools used in the program or completion of related coursework.
- Additional program‑specific requirements may apply.
- Work primarily in a standard office setting; occasional standing, kneeling, or lifting up to 25 lb.
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week for mentoring activities, meetings, and events.
- DOJ live‑scan/fingerprinting (cost to candidate).
- Sealed official transcript(s) required.
- TB risk assessment.
- Other certifications or licenses may be required depending on position.
