PT - Automotive Laboratory Technician Aid
Salary: $15.00 per hour
Summary of Function: Assist faculty and students in maintaining the automotive labs and classrooms in a neat and orderly manner. Set up the lab for classes and prepare materials per instructions to facilitate faculty/student lab activities. Assist in preparing and maintaining lab inventories and reports for the faculty/program coordinator. Other duties as assigned.
Typical Duties:
- Serves Students. Responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the automotive technology equipment, laboratory, and classrooms, as well as the simulation lab and engine/transmission laboratory. Performed inventory and maintained the Tool Room and the Toolboxes.
- Provides technical assistance to the Automotive Professor/Automotive Laboratory Technician in the automotive technology classroom, simulation classroom, and engineering/transmission laboratory. This includes the use of computers, automotive digital scanners, electronic ignition systems, anti-lock braking systems, computerized alignment systems, computerized wheel balancing systems, and general automotive repair.
- Support student success in applying both learned classroom and technology skills associated with the automotive technology program.
- Supports and participates in strategic planning initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED and two years of experience working in a college automotive technology lab; or an Associate’s degree in automotive technology and experience working in a college automotive technology lab, or any combination of education and experience acceptable to AWC.
- Should be self‑motivated with a strong work ethic and willing to take a proactive role in the preparation and maintenance of the AWC Automotive Lab.
- Should be flexible and willing to work with faculty and other students to achieve a safe, clean, and positive learning environment.
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
- Arizona Driver’s License or Equivalent
- Applicant must hold or be pursuing ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification.
- Experience with computerized automotive simulators in the ASE automotive areas A1–A8, L1 advanced engine performance, and L3 light‑duty electric vehicles is required.

- Up to 19 hours per week
- Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends

- Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures
- Knowledge of or ability to maintain organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures
- Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques
- Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, college system platforms, software, and applications, especially those specific to the department operations
- Skill and ability to be self‑directed and to manage one’s own time
- Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
- Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
- Ability to organize, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Ability to provide assistance in a professional and supportive manner
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing, and in a public setting, and to relate to others in a professional manner
