Core Faculty Physician – Sunset Health
OverviewDeliver comprehensive outpatient family medicine care, provide resident supervision, and mentor residents to meet ACGME, ABFM, and FQHC requirements.
Clinical Care & Teaching- Provide direct comprehensive outpatient family medicine care, including preventive, acute, and chronic disease management.
- Supervise and precept residents in the clinic, modeling high‑quality care for patients with social determinants of health (SDOH).
- Supervise outpatient procedures (e.g., long‑acting reversible contraceptives, endometrial biopsy, skin/nail procedures, joint injections) and manage specific conditions (addiction, lifestyle medicine) in accordance with ACGME and ABFM requirements.
- Provide patient education and promote health literacy.
- Maintain concise, legible documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Develop, revise, and oversee assigned curricular areas; review curriculum annually.
- Prepare and deliver didactic lectures, lead group discussions (e.g., monthly/bi‑monthly lectures, Grand Rounds, orientation), and plan Continuing Medical Education (CME).
- Serve as faculty advisor for assigned residents, meeting regularly and supporting individualized learning plans.
- Provide real‑time feedback for residents and conduct competency‑based evaluations, including biannual Milestones assessments as required by ACGME.
- Mentor residents on career and educational goals.
- Ensure compliance with ACGME, ABFM, American Academy of Family Practice (AAFP), and FQHC requirements.
- Attend faculty meetings, development sessions, program meetings, and retreats.
- Collaborate with partner institutions and faculty to integrate curriculum across clinical, didactic, and elective experiences.
- Participate in outreach events and community engagement as needed.
- Integrate new ideas, skills, and areas of expertise (e.g., quality improvement, lifestyle medicine, and others).
- Support the program director in developing and implementing evaluation systems.
- Demonstrate punctuality, timely communication, and commitment to shared faculty responsibilities.
- Uphold organizational values, deliver medical care to the underserved community, and participate in faculty development & organizational initiatives.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- Model high standards of medical care and evidence‑based practice for patients and peers, while building leadership skills to mentor residents during their training.
- Dedicates at least 40% of time (minimum 16 hours/week or 800 hours/year) to residency program needs (precepting, cosigning, faculty development, administrative time), exclusive of patient care without residents, as required by ACGME.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and scholarly activities as required by ACGME.
- Monitor resident work hours and fatigue.
- Attend meetings and serve on program/staff committees.
- Support the mission of Sunset Health and the Family Medicine Residency Program for continuous ACGME accreditation and to graduate Board‑Certified Family Medicine Physicians.
- Become a member of Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) and AAFP.
