Summary

The VP & Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) is responsible for leading and managing the pharmacy services across Onvida Health’s multiple campuses, including inpatient, outpatient, and clinical pharmacy operations. This role ensures strategic growth and alignment of pharmacy services with the organization’s mission, vision, and long‑term objectives. The VP & CPO will provide executive leadership in pharmacy operations, fiscal management, quality improvement, and human resources management, while ensuring exceptional patient care, operational excellence, and continuous innovation within the department.

The role includes overseeing all pharmacy‑related functions across the system and driving integrated, collaborative strategies for service‑line expansion, clinical support, and new opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities
  • Planning/Vision: Provides vision, forward thinking and strategic planning in a proactive manner while being open‑minded and creative in establishing a strategic direction; develops through an integration of ideas of those involved, an organized strategy to achieve both short and long term objectives for the department; effectively communicates strategy to obtain commitment by the responsible individuals. Leads the strategic planning process for the department, integrates plans within the medical center, collaborates with system leadership and physicians to evaluate programs, technologies, and expansion opportunities, and promotes pharmacy’s role in the broader healthcare system.
  • Fiscal Management: Demonstrates personal accountability for financial results, develops an annual budget and operational plan, ensures cost containment and revenue growth, manages a volume‑adjusted budget, and collaborates with finance and clinical teams to identify new revenue‑generating opportunities.
  • Customer Service: Exhibits a commitment to providing excellent service to patients, physicians, and employees; communicates values and fosters a respectful work environment, supports collaboration, and serves as primary spokesperson for pharmacy services.
  • Operational Management / Quality: Committed to operational management, planning, and improvement; directs pharmacy‑related operational activities, develops processes aligned with organizational goals, champions continuous quality improvement, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and reports quality metrics.
  • System Thinking: Works collaboratively with stakeholders, integrates pharmacy services across multiple lines, fosters relationships with nursing and operations, and implements evidence‑based practices.
  • Human Resources Management: Engages in recruiting and retention strategies, mentors staff, partners with HR to develop workforce plans, and ensures a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Community: Leverages hospital and community capabilities to increase value for customers, promotes community involvement, advocates for expansion of pharmacy services, and supports Onvida Health’s community benefit programs.

Required Qualifications
  • Education:

    Pharm.

    D. or equivalent advanced pharmacy degree.
  • Arizona pharmacist license.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmacy leadership, with at least 3 years of supervisory and strategic management experience in a health system.
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated success in leading complex pharmacy operations across inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory care settings.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budget development, cost control, and performance management.
