Summary

The Patient Services Representative performs scheduling and registration, verifies eligibility and obtains authorizations for ambulatory appointments, procedures, or surgery scheduling in support of the patients' care needs. He/She is responsible for completing the patient registration in a timely and accurate manner to minimize interruption to patients' care. Patient Services Representative secures all demographic and financial information, including Medicare/Medicaid, Third Party Liability (TPL), and Workers Compensation;

verifies and/or notifies insurance company; completes cash deposits (co‑pays, deductibles, self‑pay); explains and answers registration questions on demand. Responsible to perform insurance verification, identify when pre‑certification requirement exists for ambulatory appointment and obtains and documents pre‑certification /authorizations prior to appointment. Transcribes orders; obtains and verifies required pre‑certification/authorizations, when appropriate, for any scheduled outpatient procedure or surgery. Schedules procedure or surgery as patients' plan of care dictates.

Communicates closely with patient throughout care delivery process regarding (but not limited to) insurance, co‑pays, deductibles, authorizations, procedure or surgery date, appointments, etc. Performs a variety of administrative duties including answering phones; faxing and filing of confidential documents; and basic Internet and email utilization.

Responsibilities

Schedules and reschedules of all routine and non‑routine medical services for assigned patient population. Coordinates scheduling and referrals to other healthcare providers and services. Confirms daily data entry of medical appointments, special instructions, patient information/jurisdiction, and pre/post‑operative or procedure instructions. Performs a variety of administrative duties including answering phones; faxing and filing of confidential documents; and basic Internet and email utilization.

Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers. Works closely with the back office/medical assistant team and provider(s) to maximize the patients' care experience.

Performs scheduling (and rescheduling where appropriate) and registration, verifies eligibility and obtains authorizations for ambulatory appointments, procedures, or surgery scheduling in support of the patients' care needs. Coordinates scheduling and referrals to other healthcare providers and services. Completes patient registration in a timely and accurate manner to minimize interruption to patients' care.
